Rafael Octavio Gonzalez is not your typical photographer. He uses multiple images, exposures, composites, and technology to turn his shots into seamless 360-degree panoramas. The bold colors and skewed perspectives give the panoramic scenes a fantastical quality that captures the viewer’s imagination.

Born in Colombia and raised in the Queensbridge area of LIC, he now lives in East Elmhurst. He often uses the borough’s wonders, such as the Unisphere and Gantry Plaza State Park, as his photographic subjects, and his work has been shown in a few local venues.

About 10 of his pieces — depicting scenes from New York, Chicago, Copenhagen, and more — are now on display at the Wyndam Garden Manhattan View hotel in LIC (GMAP), where they will remain until January 2013. There’s one (featuring the iconic Pepsi-Cola sign) next to the front desk, and the rest are down the stairs near the elevators and in the hotel restaurant.
