pollstation1.jpgSpeaking of politics…While New Yorkers won’t weigh in on the presidential race officially for about another month, we thought the occasion of today’s New Hampshire primary would be a good opportunity to see which way Brooklynites (or a certain blog-reading subsection, at least) were leaning. Please take the five-question Democratic Primary Poll on the link. The polls will close at 8 o’clock tonight and we’ll have the results for you in the morning. In the meantime, any predictions for how the real primary will go today?

marty-markowitz-01-2008.jpgAn article in today’s Daily News examines whether Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is going to run for mayor and, if he does throw his hat in the ring, how he might fare in the race. Markowitz has raised around $750,000 and is going to start meeting with Brooklyn politicians about the possible run over the next few weeks, according to the article. Some critics say that Marty would have a tough time campaigning for citywide office since he’s so closely linked to Brooklyn and that the borough president’s rep as Brooklyn’s cheerleader will turn off voters looking for a candidate with more gravitas. “I am somewhat comical. That’s who I am, says Marty in response to charges that his persona isn’t serious enough. I’m not going to deny that and I’m not going to change if I seek this office. ” Political strategist Norman Adler says that if Markowitz does decide to run, it won’t be a shot in the dark for him. He’s been around too long for that.” Think he’ll go for it?

The photo above comes from a reader who asks, “I’m wondering if you know what’s up with the Christmas trees placed on top of cars in Park Slope? Is this the work of prankster kids? The sanitation dept.? Some sort of performance art?” That, or folks could have just been gearing up for MulchFest.

As Racked reported just before New Year’s, A.P.C, that beacon of French stylishness, is setting up an outpost in Williamsburg. The new store at 33 Grand Street won’t mimic the company’s Greene Street location too closely—it’ll be an outlet for “customized vintage military pieces, discounted items from past seasons, and…the line’s signature denim products,” according to Men.Style.Com. Racked was predicting a January 11th opening but when we drove by yesterday it didn’t look close to ready.
