Development Watch: 805 5th Avenue
This Scarano-esque six-story new building at 805 5th Avenue will have nice views of the Green-Wood Cemetery when (if) it’s completed. (It was stalled out over the summer but work resumed last fall.) The 12-unit building is unlikely to win any awards for contextual design though. GMAP P*Shark

Very snarky, thanks folks… with the exception of the first post. There are some lovely frames and smaller brick homes near by…take a look sometime.
Let’s just play off the contextual point of this point, which this POS is not.
Guess Scarano must be out of work since someone else is using up all of his signature black bricks.
Barf.
“perhaps if it was a 6 story condo with vinyl siding that was 16′ wide and sags in the middle? would that do it?”
Lalaland;
Excellent! Now THIS should be the QOTD.
Seriously, that is probably the best looking building for 5-10 blocks in either direction up 5th Avenue.

Doesn’t seem that bad to me. And yes the houses next door aren’t that pretty either. But most houses aren’t. For example I describe my house as being warm and funny and having a great personality.
It won’t be brutal when the surrounding buildings are razed and complementary 6-story buildings surround it.
Thank goodness not ‘contextual’.
Not going to say the surrounding buildings are beautiful but that is beyond brutal and hideous.
i drive down that block reguarly, its not that bad!
