Solar Power, Cuban Food Come to Ft. Greene

The folks who made corn on the cob hip again (was it ever in the first place?) bring us the new Habana Outpost, the Brooklyn sister restaurant of the similarly-named Nolita favorite. The city’s first solar powered restaurant will host a kick-off party at its new digs on South Portland and Fulton this weekend. The festivities will include an outdoor market with local designers, djs and the like showing off their talents. Our friend Matt from the French Kicks will be debuting his new line of t-shirts, so there are sure to be plenty of ladies on hand. We’ll be lurking in the shadows looking to score some free grapefruit soda. More info on the link below.

I bet ya it gonna be the next hipsters hang out. Damn!!!!
We went by right at noon at it was completely hectic so we took off. They’re going to start projecting outdoor movies on the wall of the courtyard in the evenings this summer…
I drove by… A lot of people out by the vendors. The resty hours confuse me tho- they are open Thur-Sat… and they have a limited menu- nothing like the Nolita branch. Weird….
I dont think so, Nolita is evan farther from Havana and it is not outpost It is just cafe habana. But in brooklyn it has to be outpost.
Did anyone go there for opening?
It’s a Cuban outpost. I imagine the word “outpost” refers to its being far from Habana, not that it’s colonizing the uncivilized wilds of previously undiscovered Brooklyn.
I recently moved from Fort Greene to the Franklin/Fulton neck of the woods. I, too, am very excited about the new Outpost cafe on Grand and Downing. Without the politically incorrect and quasi-trendy names, let’s keep ’em coming!!
and pretending corn on the cob is up-and-coming when it’s already been accepted as a solid standby since the days of the colonizer is very un urban-hip. it makes me crazy!
I like the Outpost place in CH as well and wish them the best. But this whole attitiude of colonization/outposting/conquering new land/ is a bit annoying. What about the people who live there before? I don’t opose gentrification i just dont like this atitiude.
