We noticed this weekend that Yabby, the site of much al fresco drinking on Bedford Avenue, has stepped aside to make way for what we can only guess will be another unremarkable Billburg apartment building. Anyone have any deets on what’s to come?

  1. Let me apologize in advance if I’m posting in the wrong area but does anyone know about the new construction at 963-965 Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. It’s right across from a loft complex called The Kent. The reason I ask is because its designed by the architect (Henry Radusky) that has been mentioned consistently in a “not so positive” light. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

    I came across your forum whole searching Radusky and Bricolage. They are literally trying to build a monstrosity in my backyard on East 8th, though the bldg. will face Caton Place (next to the stables. They already have one10 story going up on Coney Island and are building another 10 story bldg. one bldg. away . There is a school between them.

    The neighborhood is up in arms, but we are small potatoes. Our Board of Land Use and Community Board try to stop them, but the Board of Standards and Appeals is so fickle.
    I went to one meeting at which the BSA scolded the Bricolage lawyer and basically told him to build a two-story
    site. Next thing I knew, it was on again with the 10 story.

    Our neighborhood is extremely congested as it is. Is there anyway to stop these goons? Are they big contributors to Bloomberg?

  3. God help us. Randusky is building a 60,000 foot 9 story building in south slope on 15th street right across from the armory. This is the armory that they have meticoulously restored, even going so far as matching the green sand stone at it’s foundation and replacing all the arched windows with historically accurate wood sashes at a cost of 16 million tax dollars. The builder has already started “work” by showing up with a truck load of illegal workers who tore down neighbors fences and put up a construction fence 5 feet over their property line. When the police came all the workers ran away, and the job was stopped Please help stop this monster from being built.Anyone who cares about brklyn’s history come to our rescue.

  4. An interesting tibbit about the principal at Bricolage “Designs” regarding a development in Fort Greene:

    “The owner’s architect, Henry Radusky, also ran afoul of authorities after he was found to have “repeatedly failed to follow the building code and the zoning resolution in his filings,” according to the city’s buildings department. Radusky has voluntarily surrendered his right to self-certify plans, officials said. The building plans for the Clermont Avenue project themselves reveal a tangle of often contradictory assertions. In order to meet minimum requirements of 400 square feet per apartment, the owner asked that city inspectors include the exterior and interior walls in their computations. Then, in an effort to avoid a requirement for secondary emergency exits, such as fire escapes, for the units, the owners asked that the square footage calculations be reduced. The owners also never filed an application to create a transient hotel, which buildings department officials said would be an improper use for the area, which is zoned for residential dwellings.”

    How do we stop these guys?

  5. If the name Bricolage is attached to the project, another souless, cheaply constructed brickface monstrosity will surely follow. That company is responsible for most of the charmless new construction in Kensington.

    Let’s see…take a 100 year house with a wrap around porch and stained glass windows, raze it to the ground and erect an oversize building with 3 or 4 disparate design styles that fills the lot (no room for a blade of grass to grow) and is completely out of character and scale with the rest of its neighbors. That’s Bricolage!

    I’m sure they’ll be really welcome in billyburg.
