Evidently, the disclosure in yesterday’s NY Times that the planned Richard Meier tower overlooking Prospect Park will reach 30 stories came as a bit of a surprise to some. Citing an October item in the Real Deal, neigborhood blogger Daily Heights writes that until yesterday everyone had thought the building would be a maximum of 16 to 18 stories. An article in today’s Daily News says that the 119-unit building at 17 Eastern Parkway will be 15 stories and that 2-bedrooms are expected to start at $1,000,000. Local residents are concerned not only about the long shadows the building would cast on the park but also the extra stress it could put on sanitation. The building is slated for 2007 completion, though the site, still in the hands of the Union Temple, is currently being used for parking.
