First Blimpies in FG, Now Subway in the Burg
We noticed on the way to work this morning that Subway is setting up shop on Bedford Avenue at North 5th in Williamsburg. We remember the outcry when Tasti DeLite opened up in, what, 2003? We haven’t heard a peep of resistance this go-round though. Has the community just resigned itself to corporate mediocrity?

Few people will go out of their way just to get a meal from Subway. If people in the community won’t eat there, then the place will go out of business. If it stays in business, then it’s fulfilling some kind of need. The real question, as I see it, is why so many people are willing to abandon the Mom & Pop stores in favor of chains.
i want a tuna sub.
Outpost in Clinton Hill is indeed a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. Excellent coffee and espresso, comfortable atmosphere, and locally owned. Please no Duncan Donuts. Just say no!!!
I second the recommendation for Outpost on Fulton (approximately at Irving or Downing.) It’s a bit hidden (i.e. not much going on on that block) but they make great coffee and their pastries are fresh every day.
We didn’t need another Indian restaruant to replace Kitchen of Bengal because Taj Mahal is half a block away, so Subway kinda fits in food-wise. I mean, I’d rather see an independent deli open up, but when you are losing places like L Cafe and gaining places like Tasti DeLite, its obvious where Bedford Ave is headed..
I’m just glad it wasn’t another Bagel/Pizza/Thai place that opened up.
There already is a subway in Clinton Hill on Fulton near Washington. Pretty unobtrusive in my opinion.
If you are looking for nice coffee in Clinton Hill, please go the Outpost Cafe on Fulton between Grand and Classon. It’s a great place, displays art for sale too. Support the local businesses if you can!
You’ll probably get a Dunkin Donuts instead. They are sprouting up everywhere.
Wake me up when there’s a Starbucks on Nostrand.
we call it “taz-day-lee-tay”, and there’s sometimes a line because it takes them FOREVER to do anything. they’re rude to boot. feh.
