The fastest growing part of Brooklyn is not Park Slope, Williamsburg, or Brooklyn Heights. It’s Downtown Brooklyn, according to the Post. Ten years ago, only 3,270 people lived in the 60 block area, today there are more than 9,000 people. Since 2007, 28 condo and rental projects have been built, with 30 others stalled by the economy. The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership estimates over 16,000 people by year’s end, as projects like Brooklyn Gold, and others, near completion. The Partnership’s Joe Chan estimates much more growth by 2012, and cites the building of Bruce Ratner’s Barclay’s Arena to boost the area even more. The impact of the arena will be historic. It is a gamechanger for Downtown and the borough.

  1. Property Shark stats:

1 mile from the Oro building there are 7,679 condo units total.

1,997 of them are in a status called ” Lis Pendens “.

In other words, 26% of all condo units in a one mile radius from 306 Gold St are on the brink of foreclosure.

    hmmmmmmmmm……………

  2. I LOVE it when idiot trolls post their racist comments using coded language, thinking that we don’t hear what they’re saying. Rrrright, like we don’t know WHY this area was disparagingly described as “crackhead central.” Cuz any neighborhood where there are blacks, it’s just a haven for crack users, a virtual mecca, right? Because most blacks smoke crack? And we know there are blacks here, cuz they just LUV their fried chicken– hence the mention of the KFC there.

Just a question– if a Gristedes opens in Downtown Brooklyn to appease the new residents, will it be cokehead central? Just curious…

BTW, this is the reason why I hate the internet so much now– it’s a troll’s and ignoramuses paradise, where anonymous cowards can post their stupid drivel. What a pity that a medium that had so much potential for debate has turned into a wankfest for morons.

“I guess you would rather just have people hanging out on the corner bringing no substance to a neighborhood.”

NO. What he would RATHER have are people who bring something of substance to the neighborhood without the racist and classist baggage they also tend to carry with them, nor the arrogant assumption that just because they’ve bought into it, longstanding area institutions that existing residents rely on need to be immediately razed or eliminated for their benefit.

  3. You know what…I see that…now:(. I apologize to you, that was someone else’s comment! I was so mad at the comment and I read your name…ugh. Sorry about that…eek.

  4. Inside those crumbling apartment buildings were very large apartments where artists, actors, musicians, makeup artists, and I lived. We had rooftops gardens above the stores that are referred to as “crackhead central”. I even filmed shows on the Discovery Channel Home on “crackhead central” with David Tutera. So don’t be so quick to assume you know what’s going on if you don’t know…what you don’t know.

  5. Crackhead central…robotpony you’re a dumbass. I was one of those people who lived across the street from crackhead central. The Kennedy Fried Chicken. And I got fully paid when they took my building away. The only crackheads I ever saw were in their business suits who wondered across the street to get served during work from MetroTech. Get a life. You live in Brooklyn Gold…your building is run by folks who got paid off of those crackheads.
