Since the turn of the century, Downtown Brooklyn has experienced a renaissance that has brought new businesses, residences, people and life to its storied streets. Between the development of the area’s cultural institutions and the economic growth of its commercial sector, the neighborhood has been transformed by rezonings, shifting demographics and time.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership — a nonprofit local development corporation that works to improve the area — the Brooklyn Historical Society will be holding a discussion of Downtown’s new identity called The Brooklyn Way: Putting Together the Pieces of a 21st Century Downtown.

A panel of experts, including former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and former BAM President Karen Brooks Hopkins, will be in attendance to discuss the past 10 years of Downtown Brooklyn’s history. The evening will be moderated by former Downtown Brooklyn Partnership President Tucker Reed.

The event is free with online registration and will be held at the Society’s 128 Pierrepont Street location in Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m (doors are at 6 p.m.). Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and registering does not guarantee a seat.
