As real estate firm REQX Ventures and gym chain Equinox prepare to take over troubled Citi Bike, the bike share program has announced a big expansion into Brooklyn and Queens, adding 6,000 bikes and 375 stations by 2017. Next year, stations will come to Greenpoint, north and east Williamsburg and eastern Bed Stuy, according to this map released by Citi Bike earlier this afternoon. After that initial expansion, stations will be added in Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Park Slope, Red Hook, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and Carroll Gardens.

Citi Bike also confirmed the price of a yearly membership will rise from $95 to $149, but hasn’t revealed when. Riders can still get a $95 membership for now.

  1. jbrian get off your ass and ride a bike bc its going to become a more and more common way to travel as NYC grows similar to most European cities. You sound more well suited for the fat midwestern lifestyle.

  2. Great, these jokers are going to add more bikes. I cannot possibly be alone in my hatred of NYC cyclists. Less parking spots because of the stations and more boneheads riding around on a children’s recreational device knocking people over and ignoring road rules.

    • Seriously? How about instead of ridiculous comments disparaging cyclists, we begin to have a real conversation about how we all — cyclists, drivers, pedestrians — can co-exist in this city by accepting that people choose to travel in different ways and we are all responsible for each others safety? Do some cyclists ignore road rules? Yes. But so do drivers. And pedestrians jaywalk and cross the street against the lights while texting. Demonizing one group, while not recognizing that we all play a part in a community, does nothing to solve an issue.
