The prices in Brooklyn Heights are still below similar Manhattan neighborhoods, such as the West Village and Greenwich Village in general. You can still buy a Brooklyn Heights brownstone for about 40% less than in the Village, not that I can actually afford it! But I’ve lived in both Brooklyn Heights and the Village. The Heights is much more charming and livable in terms of it being quiet and having a neighborhood feel. The Village is lovely too, but it often gets too crowded and noisy with tourists and the weekend crowd. The Heights is like a small town, but what I also loved about it is that I could go anywhere in Manhattan in 5 to 15 minutes. Because you can get subways in the Heights going to the west side (e.g., 2,3,A,C), the east side (4,5) or center (R), it was much more convenient than living in the West Village. Although I live in a studio, I would much prefer buying a brownstone in the Heights than in any other place in the city.
IMHO, Brooklyn Heights is the nicest neighborhood in all of NYC. Great small-town feel, but just 5 mins to Manhattan and great access by subway or taxi to anyplace in the city.
