Back in February, the tile design that the Bed Stuy Reno’ers created for their bathroom floor elicited oohs and ahs from readers. This week, our faithful bloggers were back at it, attempting to seal the tile before grouting. Despite lamenting the fact that the “Goddamn tile won’t goddamn quit being more goddamn work,” Peter, in the end, proclaims the sealing process a success. More pics and play-by-play on the link.

that’s so goddamn beautiful i could goddamn cry.
BTW, it’s my experience that you’ve GOT to seal the tile before grouting.
keeping it waxed is the way to go.
You don’t seal the tile, you seal the grout.
Waxing the tile will allow it to stay clean longer and be cleaned, but waxing requires tedious maintenance.
Otherwise, choose glazed tile.
Anyway, that job looks beautiful, and a little patina will only add to its charm.
I’ve had the same tile in my kitchen for 8 years. It’s true- it can’t really be cleaned. I’ve tried everything. I still love it, though.
First of all….I’m glad to see someone is actually taking longer than me to finish projects! Secondly, I know what you’re going through with this tile. That matte finish looks beautiful out of the box, but it’s impossible to keep clean. My tenants are cursing me for installing it and I’ve just given up trying to clean my own bathroom.
Don’t seal ceramic tile.
