All Systems Go [Renovation Blog]
I second that suggestion. My rule of renovation is that each person who comes into your house to fix something, breaks something else. Cynical, but true. Carpenter installs cabinets, scratches new fridge. Granite guys install countertop, scratches new cabs. Floor guy refinishes floors, splatters varnish all over new moulding. Moulding refinisher splashes stain all over floor. Movers scratch floor, and so on and on.
I have a supply of moving blankets, cardboard, duct-tape, etc. and try to protect anything and everything I can. But just the other day, we some furniture delivered. I protected the floor, the wodwork, etc. Wouldn’t you know it, the movers managed to take out my antique repro push button dimmer light switch. When I got home, I asked my wife “How on earth did they manage to do that???” She replied “I don’t know, it seems physically impossible, but hey you know they’ve got to break something – it’s the law”.
It appears that you have a nice mantel and surround; however, you already have materials leaning up against and sitting on it. Just a tip, Murphy’s Law is bound to happen. It may be worth the few bucks to protect these type of items, get some plywood and build a box arround them.
