  1. I think there is a huge difference between preserving historic features and building something to look old and historic. The latter is the exact definition of kitsch in my book. The key word here is “preservation”. If it’s not old to start with, it’s got to be new. Very new. Why try to make something new look old? No more fake antiques, people!

  2. Looks like a nice value for the buck kitchen. And since you work in the financial sector, I’m not surprised you “invested” in the stainless steel appliances either, but I’m still a little flummoxed.

    Since you’ve gone through so much work to preserve and renovate your house in its historic context, why are you building such a modern looking kitchen?

    I realize this isn’t the dream kitchen you plan on building one day, but I’m surprised you weren’t more creative in keeping with the historic preservation issues which obviously mean so much to you.

  3. You’ve done a great job on a budget, brownstoner. Are you going to use those long stainless steel handles from Ikea? They would look really good on these cabinets. I see them made at fancier places but Ikea sells them for only about $5/pack.
