The kitchen on the second floor is hopefully only temporary–until we can afford to take over the entire parlor floor. So like many budget-conscious kitchen renovators, we went the Ikea route. We were very close to pulling the trigger on the red lacquer finish, but in the end made the safer choice of the dark brown wood Hallarum finish instead. We are splurging a bit on the counter, though, having it made out of some slabs of marble salvaged from an old theater in the West 40’s.
Kitchen Cabinets [Renovation Blog]
Hmm, you’re good! It already keeps me from work too often just checking your site.
Good luck with turning this into a full time job.
Wall Street for the time being, but trying to set things up so Brownstoner can become a full-time gig. That’s the dream, anyway. We’ll see.
yes, brownstoner, what is your day time job? Or are you fully committed to your blog and live (or hope to live) from advertising income alone?
In any case, I love your site.
We rent our the upper two floors – two units – one and a half bedrooms with working fireplaces and dishwashers. $1750 each.
Bstoner- what are your day jobs? Just curious. The cabinets look great!
Rental is Garden floor. We’re also renting the rear of the parlor as a no-kitchen studio/office, keeping the front of the parlor for our own office. Then we have three floors above that for the family. = 5 stories.
Rental is on Parlor and garden and you have the upper 2-3 floors?
Looked at the red lacquer too…they are great. What do you mean take over all of the Parlor floor? Some of it is rental?
