Last week a reader emailed us the photo at top right along with this note: “Saw this erasure of an important commercial icon (Atlantic /wash.)–new facade even has simulated raw concrete. And this after Hot Bird went down. A shame.” The building in question was sold to Storage Deluxe, which shows it looking like the rendering above on its Google listing for the facility.

Yeah I miss the old yellow paint. It was a great local landmark to direct people to my house. I’m not sure I like the new “d*&k in a box” look.
I’m sure this is a dumb question, but why did they have to put another layer on the building, given that they just appear to be changing the color? Couldn’t they just have painted over the original walls? (I mean, it’s a storage building.)
I do give them points for simply covering up the original building, not tearing it up. It is exceedingly generic, however. Too bad.
