Over on the home improvement blog Charles and Hudson, they’ve got up a little video primer on how to stabilize a wobbly ceiling fan. Which reminds us: We still need to get some ceiling fans. What do people recommend?

  1. I had two Hunter fans at my last place. Liked one, but other had a rattling/humming problem that I never solved. Now I have an Emerson, which is so quiet it’s unbelievable.

Are you getting a fan with or without light? Cause if you have fan with light, you might have some issues with running the fan at variable speeds and/or being about to run the fan with the light on a dimmer. (If that makes any sense.)

Anyway, just go online and search for ceiling fans. You’ll get a ton of sites. I bought my Emerson from fanshack.com.

  2. Hunter fans are excellent. I got one for my master bedroom (10 ft ceiling height), and it works like a dream. Rosewood fan blades, brushed brass finish, amber optic glass shades. I’m very happy with it and would buy Hunter again. I purchased it about 7 years ago at one of those lighting stores on the Bowery.

  3. If you want an architectural look, check out http://www.modernfan.com. They sell them at a number of the online lighting stores (e.g., ylighting.com, etc.). These fans cost around $300, and when chosen properly, work with any decor. Frankly, I find them infinitely more appealing than the country-bumpkin and caribbean-bungalow silliness that home depot sells.
