Finally, a Gut Renovation for 290 Greene Avenue

The entire time we’ve lived in the area, 290 Greene Avenue has sat an empty shell, glorious but abandoned. The four-story house traded at the top of the market in 2007 for $825,000 and the new owner got as far as applying for DOB permits to renovate but clearly ran out of either dough or motivation. The house subsequently went into foreclosure — or at least flirted with it. Finally, in March of this year, a new owner purchased it for $500,000 and has already resuscitated the old permits and started work. To get an idea of what this place could be like, check out the photo from February which shows off the rather regal facade. Given all the good restaurants within a stone’s throw of this place now and the modest entry price, this should be a winner. GMAP
