Plans for yet another troubled Scarano project may be sinking. There’s been no progress at 353 Prospect Place since March, when the DOB put a stop-work order on what was shaping up to be a four-story, 10-unit condo. But, according to neighborhood sources, the Prospect Heights build shifted shapes in ways that weren’t exactly foreseen by blueprints: The front side of the building is said to have started sinking into the site’s foundation, and contractors may have to raze the construction that’s already been completed. Should the Scarano team decide it wants to get on the level, might we suggest a potentially handy $2 investment?

  1. “you can’t blame site conditions on the guy who who drew up plans”

2:36PM, yes you can if the site is in shambles do to SWO’s because of the guy who drew up the plans, Scarano or otherwise has been audited for questionable submissions (I am of course assuming this is the case). And let’s blame the developer as well for hiring him (or any other of the dubious architects out there Mr. B highlights for us readers) in the first place.

That goes with the territory, though.

  2. 1:08, also heard that DOB is reviewing or has reviewed most of Scarano’s work.

However, that has nothing to do with sinking construction. I am the farthest thing from a Scarano defender, but you can’t blame site conditions on the guy who who drew up plans.

  3. I walk by 353 Prospect Place every day: The plywood—fence barrier that separates it from the sidewalk leans precariously towards the street; the sidewalk is all but destroyed in front of the place; and if you can peek over the barrier, the construction area is chockablock with standing water (No wonder mosquitoes are kicking my a** this season, a few blocks away.) It’s a pigsty, a real eyesore.

  4. I read somewhere that the majority of his jobs have SWO’s with either “revoke pending” or “audit pending” since the spring.

Seems that turning over his professional certification privileges to the DOB wasn’t quite good enough.

    Live by the sword…
