In an article about old banks around the city being repurposed Crain’s touches on plans for the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, which involve turning the space into a “museum for Brooklyn artists” as well as a banquet hall. Developer Juan Figueroa’s design team has to figure out how to display art inside the building on Broadway and Driggs without affixing it to the walls, since that’s a Landmarks no-no. (Figueroa’s architect refers to the building a “white elephant.”) The $3 million renovation also involves restoring the dome’s fresco and installing a new ventilation system, among other things. There are still no specifics on what Figueroa plans to build on the land adjacent to the bank where an addition was demolished, though.
