Stopping to Smell the Roses on Lefferts Place

That hotel is the trouble spot on Lefferts on the corner of Classon. I live on the St. James end, so haven’t noticed any problems. Same type of people hang out at that hotel a those who hang around Grand Ave. and Putnam. Hopefully with time that element will be worked out.
There’s a flop house (err “hotel”) on Lefferts at Classon that’s structurally beautiful too. I’ve always liked the street but have noticed a few mentions of disturbances on it.
yea, I viewed that house. its a nice house and I’m a definitely sucker for queen anne style architecture but is it worth almost a million dollars? nope. I’d like to see if it sells for asking. a million for bedstuy is a bit much to swallow but I wouldn’t be surprised. a year ago houses in stuy heights were on the market for 600k. more so it’s ‘priced to sell’ that’s laughable. they’ve also noted that ‘houses on lefferts rarely come to market’ I suppose they’re playing up the end on the other side of classon which is where I assume the pictured homes are located.
There’s actually a house for sale on Lefferts Place on the Bed Stuy end near Franklin. It’s on Corcoran – $995,000 if I remember correctly.
The brick house is not strange at all. I live on the block. It is big old house. An older man and hi wife live there and they maintain it. I’m not sure if they rent any part of it out or not. It’s a great block, quiet, with a lot of older residents as well as several newer ones. Lefferts Place between Saint James and Classon is part of Clinton Hill, from Classon onwards is Bed Stuy. Very close to subways etc. Of course I’m biased, but I love the block. Lived in several neighborhoods over the years (Carroll Gardens,Ft. Greene) and really like it here. The scale of some of the browstones is very grand – many are wider than average – 22-23 feet. They don’t come up for sale often though.
anon 10:50 – how much was this going for when you were looking to buy it if you don’t mind me asking?
The widow’s walk on the yellow house is interesting. I wonder if there is actually a view of the harbor from there.
I live very close by, and both houses are sort of anomolies in a sort of strange neighborhood. The brick house is especially strange, with a derelict yard, mostly dark windows, and occasional old woman stoop sitter. The yellow house is on the same street as a row of brownstones and a low income apartment building. The white castle blocks the house’s backyard from the rumbling trucks of atlantic ave.
Wow. Love the yellow house. Very pre-hurricane New Orleans-esque.
