Montrose Morris filled us in on this excellent bit of information from the Crown Heights North Association’s town hall meeting on Wednesday night: “Commissioner Robert Tierney announced that Phase 2 of the Crown Heights North Historic District, comprised of 610 buildings, will go to an LPC vote on June 28, 2011. The area was calendared in 2009. The LPC will also vote to calendar Phase 3, which is made up of 630 buildings. This announcement was met with much applause by the audience. There is also a Phase 4 in the future. When all phases are done, Crown Heights North will be the largest historic district in Brooklyn.”

  1. MM, if that’s true about Elkins, I am *overjoyed*!! I am willing to put up with whatever noise they make outside my window in exchange for that place not falling to bits. Sorry CHNA didn’t get it, but just happy somebody did.

Also, since I guess it’s topical to this thread as well, I just mentioned in the OT that the Henry Hill building (former BOTD) at Bergen/Brooklyn looks like it’s for sale all of a sudden. Wonder if this will have any impact…

  2. Bfarwell, that block of Pacific should have been included, IMHO. When we finish with everything else, we’d like them to address that and other omissions. I may still be alive then.

I heard from a pretty reputable source that the Elkins house sold. CHNA really wanted to buy it, as you know, but we just couldn’t afford it. That’s ok, we learned a lot, and will be prepared for the next opportunity. I’ll be perfectly happy if someone who loves the Elkins house for what it is, gets it and lovingly restores it. It’s a beauty.
