Window sill gaps -how to repair?

Some water damaged the dry caulk/paint/wood. Any advise on how to repair or fill in. Some gaps seem to wide for caulk. Wood filler? Joint compound? Is there some sort of dough like play doh product that will harden after it is pressed and shaped, and it’s easier to work with than wood filler? I plan to oil prime and paint for better waterproofing. It’s highly unlikely the thin molding around the replacement windows has lead.

Bob’s durham putty is a great suggestion although i would gently remove the moulding and re-do, check for rot or mold behind it etc. In fact, it is a very basic profile so i would probably just replace with new pvc moulding given the location and the fact that there could be lead paint.

@jh, i was not even thinking that – now they have liquid anolin dyes that we put in stains, i was thinking them. they would have to be premixed with a smaller batch of product and then mixed into the larger batch.

We used to add cement dyes to it and it worked well, the powdered boxed stuff

The instructions say to NOT add dyes, but it does take stain pretty well. Anyway, Durham’s is still stocked by most hardware stores–even the mediocre one near my house.

@bob, that powdered stuff was the “go to” back in the day. and strong as hell. i still find it doors, in the old lock spaces. for some reason we have moved away from it though.

I’ve successfully used Durham’s Water Putty to fill in spaces too wide for caulking. It’s a great old time product better, IMO, than other wood fillers.

if that were me, i would scrape off what comes off and then asses. on the missing plaster, i would either use dash patch or compound. if the thickness of the missing plaster (the depth) grows to more than what is apparent in the phot, defo the dash patch. once that is done and sanded and primed, i would caulk the gaps between the wood and plaster as that would have been how it was done anyway. do not ever caulk anything until after ALL sanding has been done.
