WHICH IS THE BETTER WINDOW COMPANY

We are in the middle of not very great experience with Bay Ridge Windows. We paid 50% deposit in September for door and window and were told 3-4 weeks until install. We called in October to check in, were told (a little bit rudely) “we’ll call you” when stuff is in. More weeks passed and we started calling to find out what was up. Finally they gave us install date of 11/19\. I said at the time, even if you were waiting on your supplier, you should have called us to tell us and make a plan once the timeline was not what you said… instead of letting us call you and not get calls returned. I told them I was disappointed in customer service even if they were in position they couldn’t help because they were waiting on their supplier. Well they seem to have heard the complaint, and came to do half the job while waiting for security door that had still not arrived. Work was well done but workers were annoyed to be there on a Saturday and it showed. I balked at paying them more money since job is still not done… they now have 80% of the money and the job is half done. And we’re back to calling them to see when this can be finished. Apparently the magical date of 11/19 has now evaporated. So it’s been frustrating… I would not recommend them to a friend although maybe this is just one of these things that happens. Have also read some bad reviews on this forum of “windows we are”… Not sure Bay Ridge is bad outfit, just that we have for sure been let down by our experience and would never use them again.

We are looking into replacing brick to brick landmark windows and I have been talking seriously with 2 companies: WINDOWS WE ARE & BAY RIDGE WINDOWS. Both are small companies in Brooklyn that seem to be professional with a lot of experience with landmark brownstones. I would appreciate feedback on these companies to all that have experience. Also considering KOLBE & KOLBE or MARVIN. Marvin is more $ but is it worth it? Bay Ridge offers both, whereas Windows We Are only offers Kolbe & Kolbe. This is a major upgrade and I need some feedback! Thanks

You will get much better perfomance with a brick-to-brick installation, regardless of which you choose.  I have Marvin and love them, but can’t comment on your installers (used Historical Windows of NY, who are excellent).

I’ve been hearing that Kolbe has been having quality problems recently.  Don’t know.  I like the details in Marvins better than the Kolbe windows.  We went with Marvin inserts to match the rest of the openings in our building, and we’ve been happy with them so far.

I used both Bay Ridge windows and Windows are Us. Both professional and provide good service. Windows are us has higher thoughput and their staff seems more knowlagable. But they made small mistakes in order every time I order from them… but in the end they will do whatever it takes to correct the issue.
