horizontal window guards: aesthetic and other considerations?

I would like to add a window guard to my bedroom window but am loathe to block my view with standard black, vertical iron window guards.  I am envisioning that a series of thin horizonal stainless steel rods, each individually attached to each side of the window, might be less obtrusive, especially since I already have the horizontal lines from my double hung windows and curtain rod.   Given that I’ve never actually seen this and can find very little in a google search (the second picture on the right of this website is similar to what I’m envisioning, except with double hung windows and therefore set on the outside, not the inside:  http://www.securawindow.co.za/), does anyone have thoughts on whether this could work?  On a related note, how far apart can the bars be before hooligans can get through: 10 inches, maybe?

We installed A child window guard to our parlor front windows to serve as security bars and I’m pretty happy with that solution. Our windows also have a lock that works when they’re partially opened. The combo seems pretty good to me. Wouldnt work for garden level though. We also got Medco locks.

You have better luck going to a shop and having it custom made. It will be difficult to find this in any store.

would be more holes in your brownstone or brick, but i am sure any metal working shop could do what you want.
