Creating a Door

I would like to cut a new doorway through a wall in my co-op to combine units and I was wondering what a ballpark cost on such a job might be. It is not a load bearing wall and I spoke with the super who told me it?s just a matter of cutting through. The building was built in the 1950s and the wall is a mix of plaster and chicken wire. I don?t need to put in a door, just an opening. Anyone have any experience with this and how much it might roughly cost? Thanks

As the building too old, i would certainly recommend to go for a plaster and to have a new construction of wall before resetting a new doorway.

The super is new to the building so not sure if he knows anyone. He would most likely recommend one contractor who has done a ton of work in the building and I’ve used him before for other jobs, but I found him over priced and his work barely adequate. So I was hoping people on the forums might have some good referrals.

Can the super not recommend someone? It’s a relatively simple and straighforward job ewith perhaps the largest issue being to minimize the dust on demolition.

Depends a bit on the circumstances The floor transition has to be refinished. Hard to say – but anywhere between $ 2500-5000\. The cheaper solution is to use a door frame/ trim, because you won’t have to do plasterwork an repaint both sides
