Can this wooden door be saved?

Put on rubber gloves and apply a chemical stripper to the corners, crevices and molding around the raised panels with a foam sponge brush. Allow the stripper to set according to the manufacturer?s instructions. Wipe away the stripper with a clean rag. Allow the areas to dry and then sand the corners, crevices and molding with a sanding sponge.

Hi all, my original front door on my rowhouse has deteriorated over time and the wooden portion by the latch no longer seems entirely secure. Do I need to replace the entire door or can the middle section be securely replaced? Could a GC handle section repair? If total door replacement is necessary, can people suggest a few places that sell original rowhouse doors? Here are pictures of the part that’s worn away. Thanks for your help!

You need to post photos of the entire door from both sides. If it can be restored, you need an architectural woodworker. Many specialize in doors. I recommend Omar and Belda of Artistic Woodworks in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. If they can not restore it, nobody can. But they can reproduce it.

You need a carpenter that specializes in historic restoration, not a GC Most old doors can be restored, they do not make them like they used to. But it is a question of finding the right crafts person and how much you want to spend.

The 2nd pic is the inside of the door. Thanks for the recommendation!
