Best paint store?

I usually go to Pintchik as I like their staff, but does Lowe’s or HD have a better selection including paint chips? I am doing a wall stencil on a large wall & I am unsure about colors I will use & type of paint. Hear a lot of good things about BM’s Aura but don’t know if it is all that. Any insight? TIA

Gleason’s in Woodside.  really a good paint store but I am not sure it justifies a trip from Brooklyn.  It is close to the BQE though.  I have heard that Sherwin Willimas in a good store.  I am not sure I fully trust Janovic now as they are owned by Ben Moore and may be biased??

For overall professional advice, I second Sherwin Williams. Their specialty stores are staffed with well trained people who can give you expert advice without pressure. Paint is all they do. If you have decided on a particular paint (BM for example) then go to any store that carries it – but for research, help, information, etc…go to a Sherwin Williams store and pick their brain.

I’ve used Paints by George on Mcdonald Ave. It’s a bit of a hike but they are fast and seem to do a high volume. They have BM.

I like Benjamin Moore and since I’m not buying tons prefer convenience (near home), so I go to Leopoldi’s.  I’ve had very poorly mixed cans from Tarzian.

Hands down Sherwin William, their is a location on 3rd Ave and Bulter next to the gas station and they will give you a complete color chart for free. Tell them ET Construction sent you and they will give you contractors price. Please stay away from the one step Home Depot and Lowes paint always use primer

On BM, I found that their best paint is the Regal in Eggshell or Pearl for trim.  Their Aura in semigloss is too glossy.

I won’t use HD’s Behr brand but their Glidden is very good.  Weinstein has BM, California and a few others, very good selection and very knowledgeable.  Frankly if you can’t find a color you want with all the BM chips then I pity the clerk who gets to wait on you.  🙂 There are 2 locations for Weinstin.  Not open Saturdays..

Research the brands you want, and choose store based on that.  Store is immaterial…it is about which sells the paint you want (and can mix it properly, but I assume if they are selling it, they have the equipment to do that.)
