Type of bluestone for paving front yard?

I’ve hired a contractor to redo my front yard and stoop.  He’ll be repaving the (100 sq foot) yard with bluestone.  I had envisioned bluestone similar to the sidewalk paving stoned one sees around the neoghborhood, but the sample he showed me was more or less gray and also quite smooth.  I went to a local source recommended here on Brownstoned (Executech, in Red Hook) and found something a little better in color, and available in smooth and “cleft cut” finish.  I prefer a slightly more rugged finish, but the cleft-cut seemed more uneven than what I see around the neighborhood– it was hard to judge, but I hesitate to get something that might be impractical for paving a front yard. Hence my question: Is there a particular finish, not ultra-smooth, that one uses for sidewalk or yard pavers?  Any local sources, especially for a medium blue color?   Is “cleft cut” in general appropriate?
