Another sidewalk post.

I have gotten a violation for my sidewalk bluestone buckling from our tree in front (it’s actually pretty severe). The parks dept came by to check it out, and where we would be accepted into their free sidewalk fix it program, they said the waiting list is 2 years long. My violation said it needs to be fixed in 45 days, or ‘they’ will fix it themselves and bill me. On one hand I think “let em fix it, they’ll do it right enough so it will get approved since it’s them doing it” but on the other hand I have bluestone, and for all I know they may take that out and pour concrete, or I just won’t have a lot of say aboiut what they do. Does anyone have a reccomendation for someone who does this? There are a couple other forum posts kind of about this, but some are a couple years old. Any info would be much appreciated-

If you have a NYC DOT Violation on the sidewalk you are responsible for having it fixed; basically the city is putting you on notice that something is wrong with your sidewalk and you are responsible if anyone falls etc. If you have bluestone and are on a Landmarked designated street then the city will not come out and fix your sidewalk since they will not obtain the Landmark approval needed to perform the work. If you are not on a Landmarked street then the city contractor can come out at any time and take up the bluestone and pour concrete. NYC is not in the the business of saving the bluestone.
