Park Slope: school redistricting thoughts?

We’ve been looking in Park Slope for a place for a few months, but we’re hesitant to put a bid in on anything until the zones are set in North Slope once PS 133 is complete. Rumor has it that a significant portion of what is currently in PS 321 will be redistricted, but we’ve yet to speak with anyone with real insider knowledge on the planned zoning.  Anyone aware of what is likely to stay and go?

  Speaking as someone who has done extensive NYC school zoning research, I can tell you that here really is no way to know what will happen until it goes through the process. For example, the proposed rezoning of Chelsea and the West Village has gone through several different proposals in 2011, each one rejected by parents (such as this one: http://www.dnainfo.com/20111007/chelsea-hells-kitchen/chelsea-parents-rally-before-school-rezoning-meeting). Presumeably they will settle on something in 2012, but it is striking how different the proposals have been. I’m not so quick to assume that below 6th Avenue will taken from 321’s zone. 321 wants to keep what diversity it still has, and much of that is concentrated below 6th Avenue. where did you hear about rumored redistricting? I’ve been trying to follow this issue but can’t really find any news sources about it? is it just revolving around the construction of ps 133 or borough wide? thx

There are higher-scoring elementary schools in Brooklyn with no redistricting issue if its a concern. PS31 in Greenpoint consistently beats PS321, and this year PS154 in Windsor Terrace came out with the highest ELA and Math scores in Brooklyn

I suspect, without any direct knowledge on the subject, that the historical core of central Slope (6th ave and up) is going to stay attached to 321.  If anything gets rezoned it’s going to be most likely below 5th ave.  That being said, I’ve also heard people say that the administration of 321 is opposed to re-zoning because the more students they have the bigger the budget they have to work with.  But then again, it’s just rumors.
