"Turtle Hill, Brooklyn"
So has anyone else seen the really good indie film “Turtle Hill, Brooklyn,” now playing at the Quad Cinemas on 13th Street in Manhattan? It was shot in the filmmakers’ actual backyard — supposedly in Turtle Hill. There is a long discussion of the neighborhood name: Is it really Sunset Park, Park Slope South, etc., etc.? So what is it? What are the boundaries? What does it cost to live there? I mean, the guys have a double-depth garden! And why had I, a resident of Brooklyn since 1968, never heard of it before the movie?

Double-depth gardens can also be found in most Crown Heights blocks between Eastern Parkway and Atlantic. Total lot length is typically 129 feet. If you look carefully on Google maps ariel views, you would note that there is more green on that part of the map due to the quantity of trees in the rear yards. It is really special.

AFAIK this isn’t a real neighborhood. I think the made-up name is an amalgamation of Cobble, or Boerum, Hill and Manhattan’s Turtle Bay. Rowhouse double-depth gardens can be found on some Prospect Heights blocks and on Hawthorne St. in PLG.
