re-installing rads after new flooring

we’re heading toward new flooring on entire 1st floor. 5 radiators will come out…while i’m at it, thought i’d send them out to have blasted and powdercoated. after the new flooring is laid out, it will be about 1/2″ taller than previous. are there extensions or T-jont lengths to accomodate this increase in height so that the rad lines up with the pipes? i imagine there are, and that i don’t need brand new pipes feeding up thru the floor. btw, it’s a 2-pipe steam system. lastly, any recommended radiator guys for this job?

no, i don’t think we’re saying the same thing. williamsburg’s situation is that the radiator would sit LOWER…and therefore could be lifted to meet up to the pipe connection. mine is the opposite: after the new floors go in, the radiator would sit HIGHER…and therefore I’m not looking to have it lifted. nor could i lower it. i need the pipes to actually come up higher to meet the now-elevated radiator. thus my reason for asking about extenders that could attach to the pipes. get it??

thanks for the recos! williamsburg…mine would be the opposite…after the new floor is laid out, the radiator would sit HIGHER than their current height to connect to the two pipes. thus my question of extensions to the two pipes or having to re-pipe altogether.

Are you sure they are that rigid and with that tight of a clearance? I have redone my entire house (13 – 2 pipe hot water rads) and every rad could be lifted anywhere from 1-4 inches while still connected to the pipes depending on how the joists were notched or where/how the pipes came through. They are heavy (did I say heavy?) units, but all of them would have had plenty of play to install 1/2″ flooring underneath. Hard to imagine they would have plumbed them in that tightly. Could be I suppose. I’d definitely see if they had some play in them before I had someone come to add extensions.

One of my customers had problems with their radiator, and i used Roland @ 1 718 753 7206\. Very experience, reliable, and reasonable. I recommend his work.
