Very, VERY loud clanking radiator

I have my radiator shut off due to the loud clanking. Does anyone know of a heating specialist/plumber that will take on a “small” job such as this? A plumber has been here 3x and drained it, changed the pitch, etc. to no avail. Thanks, I look forward to reading your responses.

Thanks everyone for your comments. If I could live w/o heat in that room, I would. It’s alrready cold in my apartment. I hope my landlord will now at least address the issue.

we have the problem here and it is do to a back sloped horizontal pipe in the floor.  I know the banging is under the floor but it sounds like there is a madman with a hammer in the radiator.  Good luck, I have torn my floor up and have pulled this pipe so many different ways that I have now decided to go without heat in that room.

sounds like a ground floor radiator with either a bad or nonexistant master vent on the riser and or backpitched piping…for a free consultation see my contact info on my profile

Where you hear the problem is rarely where the cause lies. Banging in a steam heating system comes from steam meeting standing water in horizontal pipes/radiators and practically nothing else. Look around your basement for sagging steam pipes.

Joe Kerrigan – 718 697-0000  He solved a siimilar problem I had, several neighbors have used him, he seems able to solve most heating/boiler situations.
