radiator on 3rd floor not very hot
have a 3story house. thermostat on ground floor. conventional steam system going to cast iron radiators. no bleed valves on any of them, altho one on ground floor and one on 3rd floor has that hissing valve on them. problem is that the two on the third floor dont seem to get as warm as the first and second floor rads. without bleed valves on the rads, how do i flush out any possible trapped air? any recos? or any radiator guy youd recommend? tks!

there is no such thing as a bleeder valve on a steam system, the system is balanced by appropriately sized air vents insalled on radiators and the steam main in the basement. For a basic understanding of steam heat, pick up a copy of Dan Holohans book “we got steamheat” http://shop.serviceroundtable.com/store/p/95-We-Got-Steam-Heat-A-Homeowner-s-Guide-to-Peaceful-Coexistence.aspx For a free consultation, contact me at my email listed in my profile

you have to change all air vents on all radiators with new ones, pick medium orifice size. If you want better steam distribution, then you have to install biggest air vents on steam headers and risers and smallest on the radiators, For ultimate steam system add one pipe steam termostatic radiator valves. You will have system compatable with ultra high efficiency hot water ones.
