cast iron radiators - where to sell?

Hi, I am renovating my home and have 12 cast iron steam radiators (11 of which can be converted to hot water radiators) that I want to sell. How can I figure out how much I can get for them? Are the shops that will visit my home, give me a price and take it away if I am interested? Who/What/Where are these shops? Thanks to all for any advice!

Build-it-green will pick up and give you a tax write-off – better deal than selling.

Better off calling a metal scrapper and be done with it honestly. I don’t its worth it trying to haul and sell it . You’ll need a truck and some muscle , unless you have that already .

Kevin and Richard plumbing supply on Park Ave will buy them, but you won’t get too much $$ for them.

these are kind of like trying to deal with old crystal door knobs – if you wish to sell them, they will give you $5.00 a set (pair), but if you wish to buy them, they are $175.00 a pair. the only demand seems to be for the very high ones with the scroll work. and even those only sell when someone needs them. So you end up sitting on them trying to get them in front of the right person; if you wish to store them in your basement until you find that person, you would do better to donate them to Build-It-Green and renovate the basement and rent it out. when I started working in brooklyn, I thought I would gather all of this stuff up and sell it. I have ended up giving most of it away as it is not worth the time or the space – even when we acquire it for free. even radiators, when a customer wants them gone, we put them to the curb and pray someone takes them. The problem with “selling” old cast iron radiators is that whoever needs to buy them wants to be sure that they have been pressure tested, that there are no cracks or broken seals…. The companies that do sell used radiators normally doo a complete clean of all the corroded gunk inside and guarantee them tested. And before that of course they are not easy to pick up and get to their shop before they do all of that work, so no they normally do not pay much, if anything other than hauling them away for free. But it is the best way to get rid of them…recycle and saves the cost of disposing them in other ways….overweight dumpsters etc.

You can try posting here, asking at most 40 bucks per radiator if you are lucky…Otherwise you can try the place next to the lowes parking lot , New York Old Iron 118 2nd Ave New York, NY 11215 b/t 11th St & 10th St 917 837 3039 If you are lucky they will take your radiators away without charging you. Radiators are typical of any construction material…costs a fortune to buy, but worth nothing when you try to sell it
