Warren between Smith and Hoyt

I am looking to move to an apartment on Warren, between Smith and Hoyt, but closer to Hoyt.  Can anyone tell me if this is an okay block/neighborhood? I know the Gowanus Houses are right there, and am just wondering if anyone has had any issues with this area.  Thanks!

I have friends who have lived on that block for years and haven’t had any issues, and my son plays in Warren playground all the time.  There are definitely some sketchy characters around, but don’t think you are necessarily more likely to get mugged on that block than anywhere else in the neighborhood.
