Package Thief in Park Slope

We have a package thief in Park Slope who is following delivery trucks around the neighborhood and swiping deliveries after the drivers leave. We are aware of five thefts on our block in different buildings and are wondering whether others have been victims and any suggestions on what to do? One neighbor caught him in the act and he was so brazen he didn’t stop what he was doing! He’s been seen on the block a number of times so we seem to have become his regular feeding ground. Any ideas on how to stop him? We’d like to get a photo of him to give to police, but not sure there’s even anything they can do with a picture.

because of my business, we get a lot of packages left. fortunately I have something in my yard that makes it hard for people to see them from the road, but still some drivers do not want to leave the packages. when I said I prefer they do leave them, the driver told me that I can go on line and fill out a profile for my address and they driver will see that and they will follow the instructions. I imagine you can tell them not to leave them. Now this was UPS told me this, not sure about Fedx. steve

You need to contact UPS and tell them to stop leaving packages in unsecured areas. I’m sure the driver is just lazy and doesn’t want to wait for someone to come out and sign for the package.

This happened to me in January in Windsor Terrace. Apparently the thief was all over Kensington too; it was on the Kensington listserv. He took $400 in ceiling fans from my porch. Amazon reimbursed me. I wonder if a company like Amazon ever feels the pinch enough to call the police for something like this.

Not a truly satisfying solution but many of the postal stores offer to accept deliveries for you. Our local one charges $1\. per package.
