Herkimer and Nostrand Safety

Hi — Looking at an apartment on Herkimer Street between Nostrand and New York. I have a 1.5 year old girl. Love BedSty and have been looking for a while — but not at all familiar with that part of the hood. Just want to check on drug/shooting activity — have driven by day and night but only over a week. Need to make a decision quick so would really appreciate it. Have friends all over BedSty/Crown Heights but noone really knows this block. Any help much appreciated. I guess the answer I want is to the question — would you raise your kids on this block — why or why not — with what caveats — if any.

I´ve walked Herkimer from Bedford to Nostrand a few times (haven´t been on the other side of Nostrand). It seemed fine to me. Of course it´s quieter a bit further away from Atlantic Ave and Nostrand.
If you are close to Nostrand on Herkimer you might have some side street business going on, but in the middle of the block you should be fine.
Consider the positive things: The shops on Fulton, the A train, the LIRR, and of course: David´s Brisket House!
