Agree, it sounds like fruit flies. I had success with the fruit fly traps from Gardener’s Supply. I ordered online. No smell, no spray, they just go away.

sewer flies are larger than gnats and are very distinctive. Doubt you’d mistake them for a gnat. You may have fungus gnats which breed in the soil of your houseplants. Try not watering them for a week or so and see if that does it (they can’t survive without water). Or you could try some Diatomaceous earth on the top of the soil, which should kill them.

Sounds like fruit flies. Don’t leave fruit, alcohol, or vinegar out. If you have bottles for recycling, wash them out with hot soapy water.

this is going to sound gross, but they may be “sewer flies” and I don’t know how they get into a house, since there is a water trap in the drain line, but they apparantly come up through the drain. I just googled “sewer flies” to confirm what I had been told about them and the NYCDOH had a post on there about them, you may wish to give it a read. The only other thing I can think of is fruit flies, but they seem to be related somehow. Steve
