I certainly remember all the times when Manhattan was clear as could be, snow melters dumping into the rivers, sidewalks clear…yet Brooklyn (yes, Park Slope) was unplowed and bedlam. This happened over and over and over. Maybe it’s time the upper east side see what we in the “outer boroughs” have had to deal with? Or maybe it really was the fact that most major businesses sent everyone home at the same time, flooding the upper east side (those Manhattanites with cars) onto the streets at the same time, making it impossible for plows to get through. I can tell you I didn’t see a plow or salt spreader on my sidestreet in B’klyn until well after 3pm, and by then a good 4 – 6″ was on the ground. All are right to ask why the heck no one was out there making sure intersections weren’t blocked, etc. Backup along Flatbush was insane, too.
