Citibikes..argh!

Two guys in a U-haul just installed a new speedbump on the Citibikes rack on my residential street at the Clinton Hil-Bed Stuy border, complete with banging and powerdrills at 10PM!  I am all in favor of the program but it would have been nice if residents were notified of racks going in on their blocks (posting on a website is not enough) and if construction weren’t occurring on a residential street so late at night.

My comment on Dorothy Rabinowitz….posted elsewhere. She is 100% correct. It is reassuring when I hear people like her because I think the bikification of NYC is nuts, based on a pack of lies, the first of which is that biking is safe. It is a pipe dream and an example of false religion. All of this was shoved on people and I was never on board. Nor will I ever be on board. I can’t wait to see Jeanette Sadik Kahn out of her job, Priorities for the new mayor should be preserving our cities tax base, keeping crime low (and empowering police), maintaining city services and schools, and then I would love to see all of this shit ripped out on the list of things to do for the next mayor. Quinn, no thanks. In the meantime, I would have a quota for tickets for bike scofflaws with the aim to discourage all but the most disciplined bike riders off the roads and into parks and back onto the subways.

The complaint was about the time of the work and noise.  And I guess it’s not really a speedbump but rather a barrier to prevent cars from bumping the racks installed on the road.

I would love a speedbump on my street.   When drivers see a green light at the end of the block they often drag race in order to beat the red.  Yes, there are kids playing on the block.  And no, never enforcement from the NYPD despite the fact that pedestrians are killed by cars and trucks at a rate of about 250 to 300 people a year (in comparison, the murder rate in NYC has been between 400 and 500 people per year for the past several years).   And I would love it if we got a bike share station on my residential street.   Right in front of my house, please.   But I live in eastern Bed Stuy, and the program has not yet expanded out there.   Sorry I can’t sympathise, housenut.  But best wishes anyway.
