Sum pump? sidewalk water leaking to my basement through manhole and cracked bluestone!!
I have beautiful basement but it has been taking water on both sides lately. On the garden side I have a submerging pump that works well and is set up in a hole in the ground. On the street side there is lots of water sipping through the manhole and the sidewalk and I need to set up a pump but I don’t want to break the tiles and make a hole because I do not want ground water to come faster or break any potential pipes. My 2 questions: a) Is that ok to put a sump pump (surface pump) without a well? Does that exist? b) The Dot, DEP and Con Edison do not want to take responsibility for the leaking of the sidewalk and the manhole (DOW written on manhole) and fix it so it does not leak water into my basement – this is an extra space under the sidewalk connected to my basement where they used to store coal the past. Why are not responsible for the manhole at least??? Should they be?? Thanks for your inputs!!
