Suggestion for new Water Main Company

I received a 3 day notice from DEP 1 day ago, I received a few quotes as of yet but do not feel 100% comfortable with the individuals that came to provide the estimate.  Does anyone have a reliable company they have used for a water main?

Beware Mainmain.  I recommended them in the past, but no longer.  Background: Water mains should last 30-50 years and are considered ‘new’ until they are 20 years old.  Standard practice dictates that the main is one continous piece of pipe from the house shut off in the cellar to the city shut off in the street.

Mainman installed a new water main and less than 12 years later it broke. It had a 10 year guarantee. I asked Mainman to give me a discounted price for replacement for a main that should not have failed. I dodged a bullet when he gave me his regular price.

The broken main was removed.  He had put in two pieces of pipe connected with a coupling which is not accepted practice.  In addition, the coupling was over-tightened causing it to crack (likely long ago) and was slowing leaking, likely for years.  Then the coupling broke apart completely, resulting in water entering the main electrical conduit and pouring into my cellar though the electrical main.  That resulted in ConEd terminating my electircal service and required extensive electrical work to reconnect in addition to the cost of another new water main.

If the statute of limitations had not expired, I would be suing Mainman for negligence or breach of contract for failing to install the main in a workmanlike manner.

Anyone who has experience with sewer and water mains knows there are 2 company’s to use.  We have personally worked with 3 of the 4 Harris Generations and have always had a positive experience with them at a VERY reasonable price.  I would certainly give a ring…718-495-3600

I actually just got a 3 day notice last week, not fun!  I used this company that was suggested by a friend (Harris Water Main & Sewer), I rec’ several estimates from other companies and this company was in the ball park of other estimates but these guys actually seemed professional.  They came within 2 days and completed all of the work in 1 day.  I would certainly call these guys for any water main or sewer issues 718-495-3600
