Plumber for New Hot Water Heater?
Hello- I have been looking into purchasing a new hot water heater. Lowes is hot water heater + $500 installation. So I am considering my options… Has anyone had a good experience hiring a plumber to install a new hot water heater? Did you buy the unit from Lowes/Hope Depot and then have an indy plumber install or buy unit from plumber? Any advice would be great! Thank you!

Hi. I would like to tell you a secret. I have consulted with my plumber and I asked him that if I use cheap quality fittings then it may create some plumbing issue or not. He said me that don’t use too cheap quality, ergo I used medium quality fittings and now it had been 7 years no plumbing issue. Hope this will help you. 🙂

I think the best way to install your water heater is to higher a plumber. Because if you are thinking to do it yourself then don’t go for it because it is quiet a difficult task and leaving it to professional is necessary.

Try Peter at 9148260181. We’ve used him a few times for plumbing needs- he has even come out on weekends for non-emergency issues and always seems really fairly priced and knows his stuff. I called him to replace our last water heater when it stopped working and he ended up figuring out that it just needed a part replaced which saved us a lot.

My suggestion is you get a plumber to furnish and install. This way you avoid all the ‘well, that was not part of it nonsense” – just check the forum for the number of times that happens. Know what heater you want – above suggestions – and check prices on ineternet, etc. Just subtract what it would have cost ypu and the balance is he pmulbers price (labor, insurance, warrantee, profit, etc). It will be more than $150…last i had one installed was $900 – 30 gallon. Make sure the ‘electric’ work is included…so you do not get the ‘surprises’ many on this forum seem to be getting lately.

I bought an A O Smith 50-gal w/ 10 year guarantee from Park Slope Plumbing last week & it was $440\. I got an independent plumber for $150\. Sorry I can’t refer him – he’s booked solid.

I had Stanley Lewis Plumbing install a new hot water heater a few weeks ago. It cost $1000 for a 40 gallon A.O. Smith, including installation; a 50 gallon would have been a few hundred more, but the smaller size has always been fine for my one-family house. I liked that they took the old water heater away with them, instead of leaving it at the curb as my previous (now deceased, and otherwise wonderful) plumber had done for previous replacements. I strongly suggest an A.O. Smith hot water heater rather than a cheaper brand.
