Inadvertently flushed clump of hair down the toilet - picture included
My shower drain accumulated a lot of hair which led it a slow drain. This morning I throughly cleaned it out (picture here, https://i.imgur.com/W8Rwt2W.jpg ). For whatever reason I flushed it down the toilet. Immediately, I realized I should have thrown it out. Should I be concerned with that amount of hair going down the toilet? Suggestions. Thanks.

fill a 5 gallon bucket of water and dump it into the bowl without flushing…if clear once it hits the main sewer line in the house it is history

just flush about 10 times to make sure it makes its way past the main house trap. after that you’re good.

Nothing to worry about. You took a clot of hair (large and disgusting I will admit) that was probably lodged onto and by the cross-hairs of a 1 1/2″ bathtub drain opening and flushed it down a 4″ toilet pipe into at least a 4″ drain which flows into an 18″ (or larger) mains. You should have no problems at all. Take a sharp knife or razor blade from now one about once a week and cut any hairs latched into those metal cross shaped metal pieces on the drain so they go ahead and flow on out of the thinner bathtub drain pipe.

A couple of years ago I kind of freaked when the guy who was snaking my tenant’s bathroom sink drain took a big clump of hair off the snake and deliberately flushed it down the toilet. He said it’s not a problem. Nothing happened but I don’t make a habit out of it.
