Flooding help
This crazy rain today in Brooklyn has crept inside my back door and flooded my kitchen. Who can I call to help stop this and why is this happening?

Assuming you own the dwelling, you should call an architect or engineer to determine the fix. Without knowing the specifics of your situation, it would seem that water that should go into a drain is going into your house. The NYC storm sewer system cannot always accomodate the entire quantity of rainwater falling in a heavy storm. The result is that water backs up into yard area drains or sometimes inside your house at the lowest plumbing fixture. Over the years as NYC developed with more density, there is less absorption (soil, grass, etc) of rainwater and more hard surfaces where water runs off rapidly into the sewers impacting the capacity of the sewers to accept all that is falling out of the sky. There are some solutions to your problem. Good luck.
