Drain snaking estimate...

I got an estimate from Roto-rooter to snake my backyard and shaftway drains (same connecting line)- estimate was $500, does that sound about right?

Maybe the bigger issue was only 30 days guarantee- seems a little short if there aren’t too many rains in that 30 days to test the fix.

Any thoughts?

Pmals – thanks for your post, i had the guy come out this week to do both the front gutter drain and the rear gutter drain – fantastic (and cheap).

Call these dudes, I had mine snaked last weekend.  The cost was 163 bucks and change.  I had them come on the weekend so it was a bit more.  718-729-3018  I forget the name, I put it in my phone under Plumber, Snake drains only.  Good luck!

30 day guarantee is fine. They can’t control conditions and what might get into your drain once they leave. $500.00 sounds fair enough. Remember it costs alot to turn those lights on in the office and maintain equipment, trucks, pay your employees, etc. You know, the little things.

I’m not trying to promote Roto.  My clients tend to think my plumber snakes drains, but he does not.  It is almost a 100% guarantee that at the end of our new pipe installs, we will discover back ups in the old pipes and the house traps etc. will need to be snaked.

For my clients who had drainage issues all winter and into the spring, the $300 they paid to Roto solved the issue.  For my clients who paid $400 last week, the Roto guy actually told them to invest in the snake equipment so they don’t have to call him again.  This is for a business where you can bet people will put things into the toilet that will end up backing up the system frequently.  Pretty sage advice from someone who could otherwise ring up $400 every time they called him.
