Circulator pump getting loud

The circulator pump for our boiler (hot water radiator system) has gotten a lot louder lately. It’s loud enough to wake me up when the heat clicks on in the morning. The rest of the day isn’t too bad. I just oiled it and it didn’t improve. Is it definitely on its way out, or is there some way to repair it?

Thanks for the tip. You were right – that coupler was broken and changing it out solved the problem for now at least. In case anybody finds this in the archives later, there are great instructions on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3R3b5OiNUI

A noisy B&G 100 is often fixed with this $13 piece of crap, too: http://www.pexsupply.com/Bell-Gossett-118705-Coupler-Cast-Iron-Series-100-HV-PR-2 …but that pump is a dinosaur. It’s a better long term plan to replace it with a modern, maintenance-free unit.

if it is the 1/12 hp model, you can get it rebuilt, but that is barely worth it since a new pump runs around $300, while a new bearing assembly is $80 http://www.pexsupply.com/Bell-Gossett-118844LF-Bearing-Assembly-Lead-Free-Series-100?gclid=CMz7vbqVl7wCFaxxOgodVGQAsA http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Gossett-Circulating-Series-100/dp/B002SIXS1A

It’s a Bell & Gossett Series 100 (KV)

Depends on the type. What’s the brand and model number?
