Boiler / Machine Room Doors - Do they have to be Metal for NYC Code?
Does anyone know if only metal doors are acceptable to use for the machine (boiler) room by NYC code in a one-family residential house? This would be the room that encloses the Gas Boiler & Water heater. FYI, I have double 5/8 sheetrock surrounding the boiler room. I need to install 2 doors (24 x 80), and I’m thinking of using hardwood materials (oak) or melamine boards (doubled for 1.5 inches) for this project. Of course there would be openings made in the doors (for ventilation both at the top and bottom). Please advise.

I think metal doors are not good for boiling machine room,Hardwood doors should be preferred for this.

It is not necessory to use metal doors for machine (boiling) room. Hardwood doors are also good to use for machine room.

Thanks. Were they custom made? And if not a big secret, from where?

NYC Code doesn’t require fire doors in your type of situation. Nevertheless, I installed 2 doors that are 90 minute fire rated. They look like wood doors, but aren’t.
